Samsung To Kick-off Foldable Smartphone Trend
2019 is the start of the foldable smartphone revolution! Tech giants ranging from Samsung, LG, Apple, Motorola, and Huawei are all rumored to be working on a foldable phone technology with a release date slated for later this year.
Samsung appears to be at the forefront of this exciting mobile development with it's planned introduction of the Galaxy Fold on April 26th 2019 starting at $1,980. The electronics company featured a demo of their new project at the Samsung Developer Conference (SDC) last November which gave some insight as to how the new foldable smartphone will work.
On October 18, 2018, Samsung’s official Twitter account posted a short animated clip showcasing the foldable phone concept. The phone starts off flat and then it moves to a 90-degree angle like a laptop before expanding further into a tablet, thus indicating that the device would be a compact smartphone when closed, and a more expansive tablet when opened.
Furthermore, apps would seamlessly transition between the display sizes, letting you pick up on the tablet where you left off on the phone. Imagine playing a video game on the phone or viewing feeds on Instagram, Facebook, Snapchat or any social media platform and you desire a larger screen display, you could simply fold the screen down and get the much-desired display on a tablet-like platform.
Design and Specifications
A source claims the Galaxy Fold could have two batteries for a total capacity of 6,200 mAh thus, giving it the highest battery capacity for any Samsung phone ever produced. Samsung Senior Vice President, Justin Denison, showed a dummy version of the company’s Galaxy Foldable in November at Samsung’s Developer Conference. The device appeared to have a 4.6-inch screen which became a 7.29-inch tablet when folded down. The rear of the device has a 3.5-inch screen that allows it to be viewed even when folded down as well. According to early rumors, the screen resolution is expected to be 4K (3840x2160 pixels) ensuring that it remains high-res when folded.
The Galaxy Fold could also feature a dual camera at the rear, one of the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon processors, there could be a micro SD slot but the battery would most certainly be irremovable.
